I walked this far
to wind up here in Shepherd’s Bush
with pockets full of napkins from the Brunch Bowl.
The menace emerged unscathed
I’m here to ask you
Why are you still living here?
Are you all right?
Has this escaped you?
Don’t believe in boat rides and I
Don’t believe in picnics and I
Don’t believe in anything you say. It’s not for me.
Don’t believe I’m going there without a proper invitation.
It’s something I decided long ago when I was in school.
I see what you see.
I feel what you feel.
No, I didn't forget about the playing field.
Or the sideyard in the garden, where baseball games occurred.
Or the one day, more than ten hours I played
and I got sunburned.
Yeah, I knew I was made out of gold even back then.
Now you listen to me sing:
Don’t believe in postcards and I
don’t believe in Christmas.
You never even asked me for the reason I left school.
Well, call me a radical, but can I ask you for evidence?
Something I’ve always wanted to say
since the day that I quit school.
Don’t believe in postcards and I
Don’t believe in Christmas.
Don’t believe the Grinch’s heart would’ve grown all three sizes.
Don’t believe you radicals.
Have to see it for myself.
It’s something I decided long ago in school.
