This Is the Camera
Venn Mix

Recorded November 1989 in Mark Venn's room on G staircase at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, as well as on the adjoining quad and in the Trinity Hall music room. Mixed much later -- perhaps mid-90s.

One ... two ... three ... four Something sweet is not that sure Something sharp and I could never know Where I stand Stand between the walls between Where you ask me what I need it for I don't know Between the walls I hung the blackest cloth I had In a catenary fashion I could violate And on the window pane I poured the black I had To describe its arc of light upon the wall Now I know where I can stand Where my suit, myself goes anymore I could know With the will to dance me on And my Souvr'n, mewling bowerage I could know Into the the black I scratched the tiniest of holes With the ritual precision of a morning dream So when the dawn had cleared the jumble of the town That the camera obscura would describe Time, we've got time. Now it's time to read the words. (Time I read the sky) Set an absolute reminder of the space we fill. (Time I read the words) Sky on a wall, and the camera descibes us (Time the camera would show me) In an arc, on the black, in the room (Ahhh.) So they asked me if I knew Why the place I stand in is empty now All I say Ah, the words, they can be sad All the words they know I can't explain This away Upon the wall I saw the palest of greens No pain of motion, sound of his philosophies And as you walked across the jumble of the town Now the camera is light upon the wall Time, on a wall. Now it's time I read the words. (Time I read the sky) Set an absolute reminder of the space we fill. (Time I read the words) Sky on a wall, and the camera descibes us (Time the camera would show me) In an arc, on the black, in the room (Ahhh.) Time, on a wall. Now it's time I read the words. (Time I read the sky) Set an absolute remainder of the space I use. (Time I read the words) Sky on a wall, and the camera defies us (Time the camera would show me) In an arc, on the black, in the room (Ahhh.)
